Triple Intercrop in Naturewalk

One of the most interesting intercroppings in Permalife Farms Naturewalk is the combination of teak, ginger and papaya.The teak provides shade for the ginger and papaya, and the ginger and papaya provide regular crops and returns.

This intercrop has been pioneered by Naturewalk and is generating significant interest amongst agricultural colleges, universities and farming organisations.

Papaya in Naturewalk

There are lots of different crops growing in Naturewalk.

Many of these crops are intercropped with one crop assisting the others growth e.g. teak and vanilla, papaya and ginger, teak and tiquisque.

Milling teak in Naturewalk

The Naturewalk Furniture Center in the Pavonas Craft Village in Naturewalk, Costa Rica mills teak for use in local furniture manufacture. This teak was grown in Naturewalk and is milled on site for use in furniture manufacture in the Pavonas Craft Village.

The Furniture Center provides sustainable long term employment for local artisan craftsmen.

The Furniture Center and Teak Mill are just one of the many sustainable developments within the Naturewalk Masterplan

Naturewalk Furniture Manufacture

New milling and manufacturing equipment was delivered to and installed in the Naturewalk Furniture Centre in the Pavonas Craft Village last week.

All the equipment is installed, commissioned and running.






11 month old teak tree

Plants certainly grow quickly in Naturewalk, Costa Rica.

Here is Stefan Bryant, the Naturewalk Forestry Engineer, standing beside an 11 month old teak tree.

This tree was 18 inches high 11 months ago when it was transplanted from the Naturewalk nursery.

Teak and Tiquisque intercropped in Naturewalk 3



In  Naturewalk 3, teak and tiquisque can be intercropped. The teak is a fast growing teak hybrid which will be ready to harvest in approximately 16 years.

Whilst the teak matures the intercropped tiquisque provides a yearly income.
