Sea turtles are arriving at many Guanacaste beaches to lay eggs almost every night this rain season in large numbers. One beach seeing a great turnout is Ostiona, on the Nicoya Peninsula, although many beaches have been reporting strong turnouts.
The Pacific side of Costa Rica is visited by 4 species of sea turtles; Hawsbill Sea Turtle (Tortuga Carey), Olive Ridely sea Turtle (Tortuga Lora), Leatherback Sea Turtle (Tortuga Baula), and the Pacific Green Sea Turtle (Tortuga Tora).
Costa Rica sea turtle volunteer programs have also seen an upsurge in participants in the past few years. Because of this, Costa Rica eco tourism with sea turtles has been booming and Costa Rica has become one of the best locations in Central America to observe and work with sea turtle.
